REAT explores how AI math tutors can reuse teaching experience
A September 24 preprint tests reusable teaching guidance in simulated mathematics conversations.
Remembering how to teach
Jianheng Zhou and colleagues introduce REAT, a system that turns earlier tutoring conversations into reusable guidance for AI mathematics tutors.
Their September 24 preprint reports improved tutoring-quality ratings when models retrieve advice matched to a simulated learner’s difficulties. Human reviewers also favored the approach on a test subset.
These experiments assess conversations with simulated students, not learning gains in classrooms. The findings suggest a promising design direction, but do not establish that children learn more. The work remains a preprint; MathsAI has not independently reproduced it.
